He’d Been Putting Off Adding Attic Insulation. Then We Took It to R-60.

We were at a home in Roseville where the homeowner had been dealing with the same problem for a while.

The house had trouble staying cool in the summer.

Then winter would roll around and it had trouble staying warm.

Pretty frustrating when you’re paying to heat and cool a house and still can’t seem to get comfortable.

He knew the attic needed more insulation.

He’d just been putting it off.

We hear that a lot actually.

It’s easy to put attic insulation pretty far down the list when you can’t see it. There always seems to be something else around the house that needs attention first.

Eventually though, he decided it was time.

We Got Up There and Added What Was Missing

The goal for Koala Insulation of St. Paul was to bring the attic insulation up to R-60.

So that’s what we did.

There’s nothing particularly glamorous about adding attic insulation.

You’re working in a tight space.

You’re moving around framing.

And depending on the attic, you’re probably wishing somebody had made it about three feet taller.

But once we get going, it’s pretty straightforward.

Work our way through the attic.

Keep an eye on the depth.

Make sure we’re getting the coverage we need.

And keep going until we’re where we need to be.

For this Roseville home, that was R-60.

Hopefully He Doesn’t Wish He’d Done It Sooner

That’s usually what happens with these jobs.

Homeowners live with uncomfortable rooms for a while.

Maybe the AC runs more than they’d like in July.

Then January comes along and they’re turning the thermostat up trying to get the house warm.

You deal with it.

Then you deal with it some more.

Eventually you start wondering what’s actually going on above the ceiling.

In this case, the homeowner already knew adding attic insulation was something he needed to do.

Now it’s finally done.

The attic is at R-60 and there’s a much better layer of insulation between the living space and everything happening up above it.

That’s going to matter in both seasons around here.

Minnesota definitely makes sure we get both.

And Apparently We Didn’t Keep Him Waiting

After the job, the homeowner left us a short review that pretty much covered everything:

“Excellent work, rapid response, reasonable prices. These guys are great.”

We’ll take that all day long.

Especially the rapid response part after he’d already been putting the project off himself.

Once he was ready, we were ready too.

No need to drag it out any longer.

Now the house has a better chance of keeping that cooled air where he wants it during the summer and holding onto the heat when Roseville gets cold again.
