Out With the Old Insulation, In With R-38 in Sarasota
We had a Lowe’s customer in Sarasota who needed some help with the insulation in their attic.
There were actually two types of old insulation up there.
Batt insulation and blown-in.
Ready to start your insulation project?
Both needed to come out.
So, before we could start thinking about putting anything new in, we had an attic to clean out.
Not exactly the fun part.
First We Had to Get the Old Stuff Out
Removing old attic insulation is one of those jobs where things usually look worse before they look better.
There’s just no way around it.
The old batts came out along with the existing blown-in insulation.
You keep going until you’ve got a clean space to work with.
And there’s a lot of going back and forth.
Attics aren’t exactly designed for easy access either. Nobody was thinking about the insulation crew when they built them.
At least it doesn’t seem that way some days.
Once Koala Insulation of West Florida had the old material removed, we could get to the part that was actually going to improve things for this homeowner.
Then We Started Blowing Fiberglass
For the new insulation, we installed Grade 1 blown-in fiberglass and brought the attic up to R-38.
That’s where we wanted this ventilated attic.
There’s a big difference between throwing some insulation into an attic and actually getting consistent coverage throughout the space.
We want the insulation where it’s supposed to be and at the depth it’s supposed to be.
So, we worked our way through the attic.
Blow.
Check the depth.
Keep moving.
It’s not particularly exciting to describe.
Looks pretty good when you’re finished though.
This Was Really About Making the House Work Better
The homeowner didn’t need anything fancy.
They needed the old insulation gone and the attic insulated properly.
That’s what we did.
Getting the attic to R-38 with the new fiberglass gives the home a much better setup for dealing with Sarasota weather.
And Sarasota certainly gives your attic plenty to deal with.
Walk into one in the middle of summer and you’ll understand pretty quickly.
That’s also why we wanted the insulation installed correctly across the attic rather than just adding more material on top of what was already there.
We had the opportunity to start over on this one.
So, we did.
And We Got a Nice Review Afterward
Chris, Johan and Justin handled the project, and apparently they made a pretty good impression.
The homeowner left us this:
“Chris, Johan, Justin were very professional. I will use this company again!”
Short and sweet.
We’ll take it.
We spend plenty of time talking about insulation, R-values and what we’re doing in somebody’s attic.
But “I will use this company again” tells us about everything we need to know.
This Sarasota attic insulation project started with old batt and blown-in insulation that needed to go.
We removed it.
Installed the new Grade 1 blown-in fiberglass.
Brought the attic to R-38.
Cleaned up and got out of there.
Another one done.
If you’re in Sarasota or the surrounding West Florida area and aren’t sure what’s hiding underneath the insulation in your attic, we’ll go up and take a look.
