This Lakewood Ranch Garage Had No Insulation Above It

We were out in Lakewood Ranch for a garage attic that had basically nothing helping it out.

No insulation.

And in Florida, an uninsulated garage can get hot in a hurry.

You open that garage door after it’s been closed up all afternoon and you know it immediately. That heat has been sitting there with nowhere to go, and with no insulation above the garage, there’s not much separating that space from a really hot attic.

This homeowner wanted to change that.

So, Koala Insulation of West Florida came out to get some insulation up there.

Starting With a Blank Attic

There are plenty of insulation jobs where we have to deal with whatever somebody put in the attic years ago.

Old batts.

Insulation that’s been moved around.

Low spots.

A little of this and a little of that.

Not this garage.

We were starting with an uninsulated space, which meant we could go in and install the fiberglass the way we wanted it from the beginning.

The goal was R-38.

That’s where we wanted to get this garage attic for maximum efficiency.

So, we got the equipment set up and started blowing.

Blown-In Fiberglass to R-38

For this one we used blown-in fiberglass insulation.

With blown-in, we can work our way across the attic and get coverage into the areas that need it without trying to wrestle big pieces of batt insulation around everything up there.

And there is always something in the way in an attic.

Framing.

Wires.

Tight corners.

You name it.

Brian and Chris worked their way through the garage attic and kept checking the insulation depth as they went.

Keep blowing.

Check it.

Move along.

Then do it again.

By the time they were finished, that bare attic had a nice layer of fiberglass bringing it to R-38.

Quite a change from where it started.

One Less Hot, Bare Garage Attic
